Women Supporting Women
‘I can promise you that women working together -linked, informed and educated – can bring peace and prosperity to this forsaken planet.’
– Isabel Allende
This month’s quote originates with the Octogenarian Chilean-American writer Isabel Allende. She primarily writes about her experiences in life alongside historical events, weaving stories of myth and realism into them, while uplifting women.
What does it mean to you to work with other women?
Rewind a few years back to the eighties and nineties, women were portrayed across TV and film as being one another’s enemies, someone to compete with for the best job, the best man, the best everything. Most of you running your own businesses today will have grown up in that toxic environment, and it is only now, looking back, that we can truly see it. Even within close friendship groups, there were often invisible lines of conflict placed there by societal pressures on women by men, and other women too.
We have subtly moved away from that atmosphere, and in general are working together more and more to uplift and support one another in a still largely patriarchal culture, especially evident in the business world. And that is where Ladies That Do Networking steps in, a group wholly independent of male influence so that the women within can be themselves, and every part of themselves without judgement. We have nervous members who fear the 60 seconds presentation, and we support them, we have perimenopausal and menopausal members who are challenged in many different ways from one meeting to the next, and we support them. We have confident members who inspire and support those around them, we have educated members who lend knowledge and experience in a supportive manner. And we have members at every level between, all offering something different to bring a true mix of wonderful women to the table.
How you feel about yourself
We believe that the only ‘New Year, New You’ should only be related to how you feel about yourself, and by extension, your business. What do you need from your business to push it to the next level, and can you find it withing our networking group. Personally, we think you can. Even if the thing you need is not directly represented as a business within the group, then you are sure to find someone who does have contact with that kind of business.
You can pop over to the Ladies That Do Networking website to see exactly who we have represented in the group already. You can expect to find an accountant and a web designer, a life coach, and a counsellor, to name a few businesses typically represented at a lot of networking groups and events. We also have a good spread of other professions represented, from looking after your body to finding the perfect gift for your loved ones. We are in need of other businesses to join the group however, so that we can reach more lovely women with our contacts, and as they say, ask and you shall receive.
Do you operate any of the following businesses, or know someone who does, who would love to expand their business contacts and hopefully, their business this New Year?
- Hairdresser
- Florist
- Estate Agent
- Business Coach
- Podiatrist
- Dog Groomer
- Doggy Daycare
- Builder
- Roofer
- Plumber
- Gas Services
- Beautician
- Nail Technician
…to name but a few. The more women we have involved in our group, the better the business connections for everyone.
